Birmingham has been involved with the Award since they commenced in 1956.

The Award Association has drawn together those operating the Award in various capacities, and at present seeks to raise funds to help those who may be prevented from being involved due to cost.

Membership of the Association is free, with an AGM taking place in June when an Executive Committee and Office holders are voted for by members.  The Executive meets termly to conduct its business and Grant applications are decided.

All those involved at present are either Gold Award holders themselves and / or have served in various ways as leaders, trainers, assessors, organisers.  They are committed to the Awards and have a passion to see them extended to the young people of Birmingham.

Duke of Edinburgh at St.James` Palace

Having been involved with the Duke of Edinburgh Awards since gaining my own many years ago, I think it is an excellent medium to develop new skills, leadership ability, stickability, and a sense of adventure. It is a great asset on a C.V., is fun and provides different social contacts.

Believe you can achieve and you're halfway there.  It is a delight to help and support others in our City to achieve.

My link with the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award goes back many years.  I completed my Bronze Award in 1964 whilst at school, and attained my Silver and Gold Award through the auspices of the Birmingham Federation of Boys’ Clubs.

I have always been a keen and active supporter of the Award Scheme, and am the current President of the City of Birmingham Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Association.
